Justine Braisaz began her BMW IBU World Cup career at age 18, placing 16th in her first ever World Cup sprint at Hochfilzen. Mr Roesch finished on a high shooting clean on the first leg for Belgium. Behind him Benedikt Doll hit 5/5 and was in second but chased hard by Boe, Christiansen and Fourcade. So far in Biathlete23 ‘s career: Third place went down to a sprint finish between Quentin Fillon Maillet and Simon Desthieux. He looks in much better shape than last year thank goodness! In the sprints Baiba Bendika was 34th and Ondrej Moravec was 37th. This win came after being a part of the French women’s relay team that won medals in 2015, 2016 and 2017. The women’s race was won by Laura Dahlmeier who has made an amazing recovery after she was so exhausted in the sprint race. They took the top four places in one race which hasn’t been done since 2009. Six teams came to the first exchange together- Ukraine, France, Sweden, Norway, Czech Republic and Germany. Norway came next with Ingrid Tandrevold and then Selina Gasparin for Switzerland and Germany’s Denise Herrmann. Tomas Krupcik got a PB in 18th and Thomas Bormolini equalled his PB in 19th. The action moved to Antholz for round 6 which saw 99 points earned by Dominik Windisch who was 10th in the sprint, Rosanna Crawford was 34th in the pursuit and Tomas Krupcik was 18th. In the individual Ivona Fialkova was 70th but Tero Seppala was 31st. Back to the race and what do we know about the men’s relay in Ruhpolding? In fact 5 of the the top 7 were French with Fabien Claude coming home in 7th place with 18/20.

Not too many surprises there but there was some exceptional shooting from Anastasiya Merkushyna and Artem Tyshchenko who only used 1 spare in the whole race. At the final shoot Eckhoff missed 1 shot but her lead was enough for it not to make a difference and she went on to win the race and her second mass start of the season. It was her first win this season. Hanna Oeberg was doing the same and was up to fourth after the third shoot behind Fialkova in third. However after using 2 spares on the stand she left the range with a 26 second lead which incredibly Herrmann made up and passed her to put Germany in the lead with Dahlmeier on the last leg. Nicole Gontier had a great second leg for Italy only needing one spare and maintained the lead. The wind had a massive influence on the final stand. Franziska Preuss did the same to move into third. Tarjei handed over an 11 second lead to his brother Johannes and it was all he needed to take the win for Norway. That was the way it would finish with Oeberg skiing so well that she couldn’t be caught. The three chasers all cleaned the prone but Oeberg needed all 3 of her spares.
